PRELIMINARY
MANUAL DISCOVERY OF A SPECIFIC DEVICE
When you setup a new device in the physical network it will be
automatically discovered and added in the ECView Element Manager on the
next run of the discovery. However, you can also immediately add the new
device without restarting the discovery engine by using the Manual
Discovery.
Here are the few simple steps in using the Manual Discovery.
1. Select Map > Manual Discovery. The Manual Discovery Dialog box
will appear.
2. From the IP address section, select one of the options:
■
A single IP Address — Select this option and enter the IP address
to be discovered.
■
An IP Address Range — Select this option if you want to enter a
range of IP addresses to be discovered. Enter a range of IP
addresses in the From and To fields.
■
Custom — Select this option if you want to enter a specific IP
address or multiple IP addresses
3. From the SNMP Profile section, select the SNMP profile to be used in
discovering the device.
4. From the Subnet section, select the Subnet to which the device should
be added.
5. From the Depth section, specify how thorough the Manual Discovery
should search the network.
■
Select the “Cascade up to” devices field and enter the number of
devices the manual discovery should run for devices that are found.
■
Select “All Found Devices” if you want the manual discovery to run
for all found devices
6. Click OK.
In a few seconds the new discovered device will be added in the database
and Map View.
