PRELIMINARY
DISCOVERY OPTIONS
The ECView Pro Network Management System has a built-in discovery
support for managed devices (SNMP enabled) as well as unmanaged (non
S N M P ) d e v i c e s . E C V i e w P r o s u p p o r t s C D P, L L D P, F D P, E D P, N D P, a n d u s e s
SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3, and WMI standards to communicate with
devices.
You can choose what type of devices ECView Pro should discover and
include in your map. In the Discovery Preferences, the “All” option allows
you to discover all types of devices, which includes managed and
unmanaged devices. The “Managed” option allows you discover and map
only the SNMP-enabled devices.
Note that you should be able to ping a device during discovery for it to
appear on the network map. ECView Pro can manage an unlimited number
of devices, but the ECView Pro license may limit the number of devices that
ECView Pro can manage. Periodically, you may need to upgrade your
ECView Pro license if your network is growing or the number of devices you
want to manage increases.
SEED DEVICE
The Seed Device is the IP Address of a device from which the discovery of
network devices will begin. Normally, this is the core router of the network,
but it can also be any IP address of a device from the network. You can set
the Seed device though the Discovery Preferences options.
Reminders:
◆ If the ECView service is running you must first stop and then restart the
ECView Service for the new seed device to take effect, otherwise, the
new seed device will take effect on the next run of the Discovery.
◆ Seed device must be active and the management station should be
able to successfully ping the same. The seed device should also be
SNMP enabled.
